Walk details for 9 August 2026
The August walks to Sedbergh/ Howgills.
Because of the distance to Sedbergh the Coach will not get back into Pontefract until 1900 hours (7pm)
Short Walks
There is only one short walk this month. So anyone wanting to do a slightly longer distance could start as the medium walk and then head east to Ghyll Farm before rejoining the short walk
Short Walk
4.5 mlles (7 km.) 400 feet (120 m) of ascent
From Sedbergh walk east to Straight Bridge, then head west along the river to Birks House, then north through Sedbergh School back into town

Medium Walk
9 mlles (14 km.) 1450 feet (442 m) of ascent
From the coach park on Joss Lane head north to join Dales High Way for the steep climb up the side of Settlebeck Gill and then head south west up to the summit of Winder.
After a well earned rest descent west to Lune Viaduct before turning south on the Dales Way along the River Lune to The Oaks. Here we turn east to follow the River Rawthey to New Bridge before heading back into Sedbergh.

Long Walk
10.5 mlles (17 km.) 2780 feet (850 m) of ascent
From Sedbergh walk north along the River Rawthey. At Cautley Beck turn north west to Cautley Spout. From here go south west along Force Gill Beck towards The Calf (676m) and then south south west by Arant Haw back down into Sedbergh
