SHORT
CIRCULAR WALK
Walk up to the town square, turning left to go up by Castlebergh. Follow the path down to Langcliffe,, cross and follow Pennine Journey path. Take left fork and walk beside railway to lime kilns.
Walk into and through along the length inside the kilns, emerging take the left path alongside the railway into Stainforth and onto Stainforth Foss.
Now follow the Long Walk route, from Strainforth to Settle along the river.

CIRCULAR WALK
Walk up to the town square, go left there and go up the steep lane by Castlebergh. A short distance uphill turn right at a signpost (pointing right). Dales High Way, follow the steep path up and over to Attermire. Now follow the Long Walk route up Attermire and onto Stainforth. Ignore the Freizor route at Stainforth, instead take the riverside walk back to Settle.

LONG
CIRCULAR WALK
Walk over the bridge and turn left onto Ribbleway path head south along the river. Cross over the road at Penny Bridge, go through the footpath gate and continue riverside walk. On reaching the A65 main road bridge go up the embankment path (on your right) onto the road footpath, walk over the bridge and immediately go left down the embankment path onto the lane. Walk up and pass Turnpike House (Toll Bar Cottage), Lodge Road to Lodge Farm. turn left here up the lane, onto Lambert Lane and right onto Stockdale Lane. Bear left a junction with High Hill Lane. Cross over the wall and climb up and over Sugar Loaf hill and down to Attermire. climb over stile and continue up the path towards before Jubilee Cave, turn left and follow path until you reach a tarmac lane. Turn left along the path, then right up the tarmac lane. Then left at the cattle grid onto Upper Whinskill, then Catrigg Force (pay the waterfalls a visit then return to Pennine bridleway). Down into Stainforth. Across the main road to Stainforth Foss. Salmon may be leaping Coffee and cake at the cafe up the lane.
DECISION? Add 3 miles to the route by walking to Freizor and back to Stackhouses OR return to the Foss and follow the river path to the weir, then up the path to Stackhouse. At Stackhouse follow the road south for a short distance, look for the gate/stile (on the left) and follow through to take you across meadows, along the river bank, and by sports ground back to the bridge you crossed at the start.
