Walk details for September 2025
Short Walks
Both Short and Extra Short groups start from the Market Place in Ramsbottom.
Either spend 20 minutes looking around the food and craft markets, then walk a mile SW along the main road to meet the other group, who will climb the hill up to Holcombe (110 m climb, 1 in 4) and descend to meet the market group. There we split into short and extra short groups and go our own ways. The short walk goes south along the B 6215 to Tower Farm, then south-east to Kirklees. From there it goes north east to Lower Summerseat and returns to Ramsbottom on the Irwell Sculpture Trail.
Walk Leaders - Keith King, John Kelsey and John Robinson
Medium Walk
From Ramsbottom centre take Bridge Street, cross the River Irwell then head north parallel to the river until the subway under the railway line is reached.
Irwell Vale, Raven Shore and up to Great House, skirt Tor Hill on the Rossendale Way before heading south towards Bull Hill and at the edge of the firing range turn east then south to Pilgrims Cross,, Harcles Hill and Peel Tower. It is then a steep descent back into Ramsbottom and down to the Irwell Brewery for a well earned drink.
Walk Leaders - Ian Bennet and David Crichton
Long Walk
The long walk follows the same route as the Medium walk as far as Great House, where it heads north to Hare Clough then on to Holden Wood Reservoir before heading south west to join the Rossendale Way and picking up the Medium walk below Burnt Hill.
