SUNDAY 13th OCTOBER- Settle, North Yorkshire

LONG

CIRCULAR WALK

Most of these walks are on the Explorer Map OL 2 with a short stretch not inc.

Head NWt to cross the River Ribble and into Giggleswick. Pass the church of St. Alkelda to the School then follow a lane North. After crossing a road we climb up onto Giggleswick Scar passing a large disused quarry.

The top gives excellent views of Pendle Hill.  Head NW then North to a trail called A Pennine Journey  to Feizor. Head North on The Pennine Bridleway passing Higher then Lower Bark House. The trail heads East to Helwith Bridge. East on Moor Head Lane then South on Ribble Way to Stainforth then on to Langcliffe. We then climb East on the Pennine Bridleway. The path gives views of the three peaks. Going South passing Victoria Cave Attermire Scar and Sugar Loaf Hill. Continuing South then W along Lambert Lane and Mitchell lane we return to the centre of Settle.

MEDIUM

CIRCULAR  WALK

From Settle we head NW to cross the River Ribble to Giggleswick. Passing the church of St. Alkelda we cross the playing fields of the School following a lane North. After crossing a road we climb up onto Giggleswick Scar passing a large disused quarry. The top gives excellent views of Pendle Hill. 

We then continue NW then North to a trail called A Pennine Journey where we head SE to the Village of Stackhouse. We then turn east towards Langcliffe and climb on the Pennine Bridleway. Excellent views of Ingleborough, Penyghent and Whernside.

We then turn South passing Victoria Cave Attermire Scar and Sugar Loaf Hill. Continuing South then North West along Lambert Lane and Mitchell lane we return to the centre of Settle.

SHORT

CIRCULAR  WALK

Settle is a small market town and parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, it is served by Settle railway station.

From the coach park in Settle we head North West then north beside the River Ribble on the Dales High Way to the Village of Stackhouse. We then turn east towards Langcliffe and start our climb on the Pennine Bridleway.

The path gives excellent views of Ingleborough, Penyghent and Whernside all at the same time. We then turn South passing Victoria Cave (where in the past the ancient bones of elephants and Hippopotami have been found), Attermire Scar and Sugar Loaf Hill.

Continuing South then North West along Lambert Lane and Mitchell lane we return to the centre of Settle.
