SUNDAY 8th AUGUST- FELIXKIRK, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire
Felixkirk is about 4 miles ENE of Thirsk on the edge of the Hambleton Hills.
The fine church St Felix has parts of which date from before 1175 and has an unusual organ.
SHORT
CIRCULAR WALK
This is basically a circular with the last half mile reversing the first half mile, being predominantly flat.
It takes us through meadowland, woods and by the lakeside. If we are lucky we might see thoroughbred foals, the odd alpaca and possibly a llama or two.
Take the road out of the village up an incline towards Boltby before turning right to Clinque Cliff House, on toThirlby Grange then we follow the path to Sutton-under-Whitestonecliffe. From here we move on to Gormire Lake then walk towards Southwoods Lodge and follow this path passing Tang Hall before re-joining the route near Clinque Cliff Wood.
VERY SHORT WALK - Approx 5 miles - Maps will be provided but this walk will not have a club walk leader, it is basically a walk round Gormire Lake. It might be a good idea to tag on to the short walking group initially.

MEDIUM
CIRCULAR WALK
Same path as the short walk until halfway along the path to the west of Gormire Lake when we turn right turn up through Garbutt Wood to the visitor centre and view point at Sutton Bank.
The path through Garbutt Wood is uphill for around 20 minutes before it flattens out on reaching The Cleveland Way visitor centre. Toilet and cafe facilities are available here.
We return to The Cleveland Way via the viewpoint which gives us an excellent overview of the surrounding countryside including the Vale of Mowbray. Weather permitting we should get a good view of the gliders which have taken off from the nearby Yorkshire Gliding Club.
Continue on the Cleveland Way for around a mile or so before we then pick up a track on our left, which brings us down towards Southwoods Lodge where we re-join the route taken by the short walking group.

LONG
CIRCULAR WALK
This walk follows the path of the medium walk until we reach the viewpoint at Sutton Bank. Here it continues south on The Cleveland Way by the side of the Yorkshire Gliding Club runway and hopefully get close to some of the aircraft as they are winched into the air. Continue along the path until we reach the point directly above the White Horse.
You can get another fantastic view of the countryside and if it is clear you can pick out the power stations at Ferrybridge, Eggborough and Drax.
At this point we turn around and retrace our steps picking up the return route taken by the medium walkers at the viewing point.
At the turning point at the White Horse there is an option to continue south on the Cleveland Way down to a car park which would offer a view of the White Horse. However this would increase the length of the walk.
