History of the club
The club has been established for almost 35 years and was first founded in November 1979.
It started life as Pontefract General Infirmary Rambling Club - PGIRC and was run and organised by staff from the hospital. The first club walk was to Castleton in Derbyshire, covering Lose Hill, Mam Tor. Over the years the club has grown, with new members joining - over 70 at the last count.
We changed the name to Pontefract & Disctrict Walking Club in January 2014.
This page is dedicated to past club members,
who are sadly no longer with us.
We support Yorkshire Dales Millenium Trust
and have dedicated a number of trees to past members,
a unique way to celebrate the life of someone who loved
the countryside.
Trees are located in the Yorkshire Dales and Nidderdale
to help restore hundreds of native broadleaf woodlands
which have been lost due to deforestation.
