AUGUST Walk - Ramsbottom

All the walks are circular and have a 

long gradual climb and one steep drop.

Short Walk 7 miles

Go north from Station alongside River Irwell to Strongstry, then north to subway along cycle path 6.

Go west past Pleasant View Farm to

Robin Hood's Well (marked as spr. on map). Go southwest, south, and then southeast to Peel Tower.

Zig-zag downhill northeast through Holcombe and Tanners back to the bus.

 

Medium walk   9 ½  miles

As the short walk to Robin Hood's Well.

Go southwest over Bull Hill to works, then southeast to Lark Hill, then east to rejoin short walk.

After Peel Tower go west round Top o' th' Moor Farm and then east through Hall End Farm to rejoin short walk back.

 

Long walk     13 miles                    

As medium walk to Top o' th' Moor Farm,

then north through Taylor's Farm to Holcombe

Head Farm.

Turn south to Simons farm, then southeast to A676.

Head east through Brooksbottom, then north along the Irwell Sculpture Trail to the bus.

Irwell Sculpture Trail - Great photo opportunity

A map for a 5 mile flattish walk along the Irwell Sculpture Trail to

Burrs Country Park through the picturesque village of Summerseat can be borrowed.

Seek And You Will Find: a series of carved

wooden sculptures relating to indigenous

flora found around the park. All the works

are 'secretive', located amongst the flora

its form is taken from Ramson herb

from which the town's name originates.

Tilted Vase  draws on the legacy of the Industrial Revolution in the valley. Classical in shape reflecting the architecture.

 

A steam train from Summerseat back to

Ramsbottom can be used.
