Further information:
Skipton Castle is a well preserved Norman castle built around 1090 and given to the Clifford family in 1310. The castle was a Royalist stronghold until falling to Oliver Cromwell in 1645. It and the Clifford family took an active part in the War of the Roses.

All walks are circular from the Coach Park
at the rear of Skipton Town Hall
where toilets are available.
Short Walk 7.5 miles Neil Weaver (walk leader)
The route goes North from Skipton along Dales High Way crossing Skipton Golf Course to Brackenley Lane to reach Tarn Moor. The route then goes East along Brackenley Lane to Embsay then North West to Embsay Moor Reservoir.
There is an option then of ascending Embsay Crag or taking an alternate route without the climb. The route then heads South to Embsay again then South West to pass
Should walkers wish to shorten the route to 4.5 miles it is possible to miss out the Embsay Reservoir and Crag section .
Medium Walk 11 miles Keith King (walk leader)
The start is the same as the short walk but goes west over Sharp Haw at Tarn Moor the route goes North West to Flasby Fell and on to Flasby. The route then goes South through Eshton Bridge to Holme House lock to reach the Leeds Liverpool canal and follows the towpath South East to Skipton.
Long Walk 14-16 miles Dave Fothergill (walk leader)
The route is virtually the same as the medium walk but at Flasby then continue north-east along Dales High Way to Mill Gate Laithe, the route continues north east to Rhylstone.
Go south-east by B6265 and track to Bark Brow, then east to Green Hill Brayshaw. Go south to Embsay, then joins the Leeds Liverpool canal to go South East back to Skipton.
Did you know?
Skipton is Anglo Saxon for Sheep Town.
There is still a Sheep Street and an aptly named pub on it called The Woolly Sheep Inn with full sized, ornamental, painted sheep to promote events around the town. Sheep day is held on the last Sunday in July.
Skipton has its own brewery, the Copper Dragon Brewery with a visitors centre that you won’t wish to leave.
