August Walk - Barbon

Barbon, North Yorkshire Dales

Sunday August 10th 2014

 

Short Walk (easy to moderate 5.5 miles)

Walk Leader - Keith King

Start from Cowan Bridge and follow the course of Leck Beck through pasture land with views of Gargareth and Great Coum to the East. Traverse round Hoggs Hill and into Barbondale through woodland to Barbon.

 

 

 

 

 

Medium Walk (moderate 12 miles)

Walk Leaders - Neil Weaver/Geoff Wardle

Start from Barbon through woodland and around Hoggs Hill. Follow Leck Beck to Cowan Bridge. Then head North through pasture land via Casterton back to Barbon.

 

 

 

 

Long Walk (challenging 18.5 miles)

Walk Leader - Dave Fothergill

Start from Barbon as medium walk, at Bullpot Farm head North East over Casterton Fell and climb to Crag Hill and onto Great Coum 687m. Head South towards Gargareth then South West over Leck Fell to Cowan Bridge. Return to Barbon as medium walk.  

  

Choose the walk that is right for you on the day,

so you are comfortable with the pace of the group.

Please Note:

 

The trip to Barbon is longer than our usual monthly walk

being not far from Kendal in Cumbria.

Extra travelling time for the journey will be required, this means that the coach returning back to Pontefract will return later than usual at approximately 7pm.

 

On completion of the walk, the small village of Barbon has a country pub, the Barbon Inn and also a coffee & village shop, the Churchmouse is open until 4pm.
