February Walk - Grassington

Grassington circular
on the Dalesway

Short Walk:
Leader Andrea Robinson. 8 ½ Miles
Grassington to Burnsall on the Dalesway, flat going. Then a steady rise and fall from Thorpe to
Far Langerton, quite a few stiles on this section.
Then over fields back to Grassington via Linton.
Medium Walk:
Leader Keith King. 11 ½ Miles
Grassington North East to Yarnbury,
North along Conistone Turf road towards Kettlewell and back along the Dalesway.
A gradual climb and descent followed by valley walk.
Long Walk:
Leader David Fothergill 15 Miles
East to Tinkers Lane, from Yarnbury North East to Mossdale then West along Benfoot Brow. North to Kettlewell then back along the valley. Two steady climbs and descents.

Grassington is a market town and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire.
Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the town is situated in Wharfedale, about 8 miles (10 km) north-east from Bolton Abbey, and is surrounded by limestone scenery. Nearby villages include Linton.
Did you know.....
In 1909 Grassington received its first electricity from a hydroelectric plant at Linton Falls, which continued to operate until 1948 when the National Grid arrived in the area. In March 2012 a new hydroelectric power plant was opened using the same but restored turbine house, which provides 500,000 kWh of electricity a year.
